Within the framework of the Florida Agriculture 2040/2070 initiative, the Florida Conservation Group is collaborating with the University of Florida, 1000 Friends of Florida, and other key partners to engage proactively with the agricultural community and stakeholders, raising awareness about potential development threats and underscoring the critical significance of conserving agricultural land. FCG is providing insights to shape policy and planning strategies. The Florida Agriculture 2040/2070 project provides a set of future development scenarios for the State of Florida. This includes a trend “Sprawl” scenario based on current trends of population growth and development and an alternate “Conservation” scenario that incorporates higher densities and more proactive land conservation. The current project is updating prior work by Dr. Paul Zwick and Dr. Peggy Carr from the University of Florida to incorporate future sea level rise and population migration.
